The preliminary stage is the crucial period for the second language learners in acquiringsecond language. It has the great significance for the second language learners to form thebasis of second language knowledge. However, the junior high-school students are greatlyinfluenced by native language and affecting factors are covered with every aspect especiallyin syntatic learning. Therefore, it is difficult for the learners to understand syntax of English, and syntactic errors are normal phenomenon due to the quite different system of twolanguages. Negative transfer of syntax of native language is the obstacle to the secondlanguage learners and should not be neglected. Language transfer includes positive andnegative one. Positive transfer plays the active role in the second language learning andnegative transfer is an obstacle to the second language learners. To study negative transfer insyntactical level in deeper layer, this thesis is designed to study the negative transfer of syntaxby analyzing syntactic errors made by30junior high-school students which are praised in theprocess of second language acquisition. The writer proposes to decrease the negative transferof syntax by efficient strategies and also gives the second language teachers and learnersrevelation to emphasize the importance of syntactic teaching and learning, to seek moreefficient strategies to decrease the negative transfer of syntax in second language learning. There are three research questions in this paper:1. What syntactic errors made by juniorhigh-school students occupy the higher ratio due to the influence of negative transfer insyntax of native language?2. Are the students in different proficiencies of English influencedby negative transfer of syntax at the same level in the second language acquisition? And whatis the character of negative transfer of syntax in the process of second learning?3. Whatstrategies can be taken by the second language teachers and learners as decreasing thephenomenon of negative transfer in syntactical level? This paper is more practical and reliablefor the second language researchers to study negative transfer of syntax; It analysis effectingfactors of negative transfer of syntax more objectively, it also proves the importance ofnegative transfer in syntax; enrich the theory of SLA and make the second language learnersand teachers be aware of influence of negative transfer of syntax on the second languagelearners. Meanwhile, use the different teaching strategies to reduce or decrease thephenomenon of negative transfer in the second language acquisition.
