With the rapid development of embedded technology, it has been drawn more andmore attention in the industrial field. Hence, the CNC machine tools based on embeddedsystem has also become more and more popular. Nowadays, the CNC that are used forlathe, milling, grinding and drilling can’t meet the requirements of both low-cost andmulti-function. Especially those CNC used in textile, glass carving, etc. requires arelatively low precision of motion control and response speed, but demands processvariety and multi-function. In view of the related requirements of industries above thispaper designs a hardware platform of embedded numerical control system based onS3C2416and FPGA. The major contribution of this paper is listed as follow.The hardware structure of high and low level numerical control system in domesticand foreign countries are studied, and also the characteristics of S3C2416. Based onanalyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the existing CNC system hardwareplatform, an embedded CNC system scheme is proposed. This scheme adopts S3C2416asthe core processor, and FPGA as co-processor.After making full advantages of the features of low power consumption, abundantresources and stable performance of S3C2416and configurable of the FPGA, theprocessor peripheral chips and devices are selected rationally. Moreover, the design oflow-power hardware circuit and peripheral drivers, such as LCD driver, are completed.The VHDL is used to implement the logic program relative to the control interface inthe FPGA. The efficiency of the interface controlled by S3C2416is improved by takingfull advantage of the FPGA parallel computing.According to the above design ideas, this study fully considers the system structureand the electromagnetic compatibility, and optimizes the design of the system circuitboard. Then the electromagnetic compatibility and environmental testing are conductedbased on the test platform for the system. The experimental results verify the functionalityand stability of the system.
