Research On The Improvement Of Tianjin Port Environmental Management System

In recent years, Chinese government has increased their attention to environmental governance, that the behaviors of the companies destroying the environment for economic interests have been constrained. Countries all around the world develop a variety of standards and legislations to regulate the behaviors of companies and organizations for the purpose of protecting the environment. The ISO14000 environmental management system, which was promulgated by the International Standards Organization in 1996, was recognized and enforced by the companies and organizations worldwide and became the global unified standard of environmental protection and evaluation.Tianjin Port, one of the major leading enterprises in Tianjin, located in the Bohai Bay, is committed to being a green ecotype port, in order to the harmonious development in port,man and the nature. ISO14000 environmental management system aims to support environmental protection and pollution prevention, coordinates their relations with social needs and economic development, emphasizes continuous improvement, improve the various procedures of the system constantly, to achieve the purpose of environmental performance improvement. To Implement ISO14000 environmental management system is not only an important means of Tianjin Port to develop the "green ecotype port" but also an important means to improve international competitiveness. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to improve the inadequate in Tianjin Port environmental management system, enhance the corporate image and international competitiveness, promote the harmonious development between the economy and the environment.First of all, this paper describes the study background and the purpose of promoting the environmental management system of Tianjin Port, introduces the ISO14000 environmental management system and its generation, domestic and international developments as well as the view and proposals about ISO14000 environmental management system’s application in the port industry which proposed by domestic and foreign scholars. It also brings content and method of this study. Secondly, it introduces the concept and importance of environmental management, elaborates on the emergence and development, main content, implementation and operation, characteristics and effect of environmental management systems. The third, through the analysis of the economic, environmental and ecological natural status of Tianjin Port, exposition about the ISO14000 implementation and operation in Tianjin Port, we put forward the deficiencies of environmental management system in Tianjin Port and its reason. Finally, according to the actual situation of Tianjin Port, we bring up the improvement for the deficiency of Tianjin Port environment management system and discus about its safeguards and anticipation results. The improved environmental management system will improve the environmental management of Tianjin Port, enhance its economic environmental and social benefits.
