Tank farm is one of the important parts of a chemical enterprise and it stores a large amount of raw materials, intermediates, finished products, etc. Tank farm is indispensable for an efficient chemical enterprise. However, it is also the most dangerous place because most of the chemical raw materials are flammable, explosive,toxic or stored under high pressure. Therefore, it is extremely important to conduct real-time monitoring of the state parameters of the chemical raw materials and the environment around the tank. In 2014, State Administration of Work Safety issued a notice on further strengthening safety administration in chemical tank farms,requiring enterprises to improve their monitoring facilities in chemical tank farms.With the development of the enterprise scale, the raw materials of different processes are placed in different places. The scattered distribution of chemical tank farms results in the difficulty to achieve a centralized management. It is a very effective method to timely monitor tank farm through embedded remote monitoring system based on ARM-Linux and GPRS. A centralized management of scattered tank farms will be achieved through this method, and supervisor can easily know all the state parameters of tank farms and the reserves of its raw materials.This paper mainly designed the embedded remote monitoring system of liquid ammonia tank farm. This design uses ARM as the core technology and combines technologies like GPRS, modern sensor. It realizes the real-time monitoring about the pressure, liquid level, ammonia concentration and temperature of liquid ammonia tank farm. As soon as the monitored elements go beyond the limits, a timely voice alarm will be triggered from the scene of the tank farm and a short message will be sent to alert safety management personnel. What’s more, the ARM microprocessor will control corresponding actuators(such as spray, pressure-relief valve) to reduce or remove dangers.First of all, the paper explained the overall structure design of the embedded remote monitoring system. The whole system adopts two layer structures, which includes the embedded measurement terminal on spot and data monitoring center.The former is to timely monitor the state parameters, to transmit danger, to judge danger, to alarm and to carry out chain safety reaction, etc. The data monitoring center is responsible for receiving, displaying, storing and managing all the data about tank farms.Secondly, the paper introduced the hardware interface design of each module,including power supply module, storage module, data collection module, voice module, GPRS module and safety actuator module. Then, the paper elaborated the software design of embedded measurement terminal on spot, including the cutting,compilation and transplantation of the kernel and the driver program design of each module. Finally, the paper presented the design of data monitoring interface on the platform of Qt.
