With the development of the virtual assembly(VA) technique and the research and application of virtual reality(VR) technology, virtual assembly experiment system is gradually getting attention and becoming an effective means and methods to experiment simulation and disassembly analysis. Under the help of data glove, position tracking device, stereo glasses and force feedback device, this kind of experimental system synthetically uses VR technology and makes the operating personnel involved in the virtual world real-time perception and manipulate objects in the virtual space to do all kinds of experimental analysis and research.Based on open source three-dimensional graphics engine OSG (OpenSceneGraph), virtual assembly experiment system of shearer was developed to meet the practical needs of shearer design assembly and simulated experiment which was proposed by coal machinery enterprises, universities, research institutes and coal mine companies. Taking a certain type of electric traction shearer as the research object, the system comprehensively applied the technology of stereo display, network collaboration and collision detection.The current situation of the development of the virtual assembly is analysed and the basic function which the system needs to realize is discussed in this paper, and then the system development plan is determined. The development process of the system based on OSG is discussed in the article, and the model import problem of virtual assembly system is solved by researching the conversion and optimization about CAD model and virtual reality model. The realization of virtual assembly human interaction is studied in this text. The interaction of the scene based on the track ball is realized and then the driver of shearer model is realized by mouse and keyboard, data glove and position tracking device. This adds the interactivity of system and the lifelike of scene. The application of network collaborative in virtual assembly is preliminarily discussed in the thesis, and it establishes the foundation for further development of distributed collaborative assembly system. The binocular parallax stereo display principle is discussed in the dissertation, and big screen passive stereoscopic display is realized in the laboratory by OSG.Finally established virtual assembly experiment system of shearer is easy to operate and has high emulation, supporting local experimental research and distributed collaborative assembly. The study in this article provides a reference value to the assembly planning and experimental study.
