Quick-point grinding technology is an advanced manufacturing technology which is a set of CNC machining, super-hard abrasive (CBN) and ultra-high speed grinding technology, with the characteristics of high quality, high efficiency and high flexibility. As one of the most advanced processing method in precision machining, point grinding technology has gotten more and more attention and research nowadays. This article mainly focused on the following research work:(1) The technical characteristics of quick-point grinding processing as well as its development and application inland and abroad were described. The concept of tilt Angle alpha and deflection Angle beta were introduced. The geometric features of quick-point grinding were studied. The mathematical calculation model of equivalent diameter of the cup grinding wheel, the equivalent diameter and speed of the grinding wheel and workpiece, the average spacing interval of grinding wheel grain and cutting edge, single diamond grits biggest chip thickness not deformation, grinding wheel and workpiece contact arc length, and dynamic effective grinding grain number were derived and established. Point grinding force and point grinding temperature were derived and established on the basis of the above.(2) Experimental study of grinding force of quick-point grinding was carried out. A new type of grinding wheel which has the coarse grinding area angle theta was introduced. Point grinding force was measured by strain type top force transducer, the influence of coarse grinding angle theta and grinding parameter, including tilt angle alpha, grinding depth, the axial feeding speed and wheel speed on the point grinding force was analyzed on the basic of these experimental results.(3)Experimental study of grinding temperature of quick-point grinding was carried out. Point grinding temperature was measured by artificial thermocouple method. The thermometry principle of thermocouple was analyzed and the thermometry system was built. An appropriate method to measure the point grinding temperature was found. The influence of coarse grinding angle theta and grinding parameter, including tilt angle alpha, grinding depth, the axial feeding speed and wheel speed on the point grinding temperature was analyzed on the basis of the experimental results.(4) Finite element simulation analysis was conducted by ABAQUS software. Single abrasive cutting model was built. Single abrasive cutting process, grinding force, grinding temperature field and strain of workpiece were simulated. The influence of the grinding parameter, including grinding depth and grinding speed on the grinding force and grinding temperature was analyzed by the simulation results.
