Stainless steel products processing belongs to the labor-intensive industry. Taking the cost into consideration, the domestic polishing line of stainless steel products uses semi-automatic production line. The stainless steel kitchenware surface polishing process depends on manual operation heavily. In the processing of stainless steel products, a quarter of workers are engaged in manual polishing process. There are a lot of problems in the manual polishing process, such as high labor intensity of operators, serious dust pollution, labor shortages, low polishing efficiency and unstable surface quality. As the increase of the labor cost and the lower manual polishing efficiency, the enterprise of the stainless steel kitchenware products can hardly make profits, which restricts the development of the stainless steel products processing industry. Based on the needs of the enterprises’transformation and upgrading, it is eager to study a new polishing process that is high polishing efficiency, environment-friendly and automatic.According to the present situation of domestic stainless steel polishing products industry and polishing techniques, a stainless steel pot body flexible automatic polishing production line scheme is proposed in this paper. The new polishing production line is based on existing semi-automatic polishing equipment and adds the industrial robot to load and unload the workpieces automatically. The new scheme effectively solves the problems that are the low degree of automation, poor processing flexibility and high energy consumption. In this paper, the simulation method is used to simulate the stainless steel products flexible automatic polishing production line. Through the simulation of industrial robot simulation software RobotStudio, the feasibility of the scheme is verified. And through the simulation analysis, the layout of production line can be solved.Using the original equipment and combining with the industrial robot, This paper needs to design a new conveying device, the workpiece automatic positioning device and robot flexible workpiece fixture structure. It is also needs to design and improve the original polishing wheel wear compensation and radial feeding mechanism. After the improvement, the new polishing production line can process automatically and flexibly.Through a large number of experiments of production, it can track the polishing motor’s load current. According to the analysis of the change of the load current during the polishing motor in the polishing process of stainless steel products, it is proposed to the control method based on PID of PLC. The control method realizes to control polishing motor load current during the process of polishing. Therefore, the contact pressure of the polishing wheel and the workpiece surface can be controlled indirectly and the wear of polishing wheel can be compensated.In order to achieve the purpose of polishing motor low speed adding wax and high speed machining, it is use frequency converter to control the current frequency of the polishing motor. Compared the improved polishing machine and the original polishing machine, it proves that the improved polishing machine can save about 23% energy. Therefore, it is effective to reduce the energy consumption of the polishing machine through the variable frequency speed control.
