The electrified railway adopts electric locomotive rectifier, the traction feeding system have serious adverse consequences for the quality of power supply. Therefore, it is very important in the design of the transformation of existing traction substation or in the new traction to increase reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression.After taking the corresponding compensation measures can make the traction substation power quality to meet the national standards and requirements.At present, many of our traction substation reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression device is the use of fixed reactive power compensation form, but with the development of technology, it has not achieved the traction needed to compensate the defects, and the fixed compensation device is also very obvious, not reactive with change of traction load change compensation, and the harmonic suppression is not satisfactory.Therefore, the advanced static var compensator is widely studied in recent yearsand gradually put into use.First analyzes the research background and significance of this design,then introduces the research strategy principle of static var compensation device and compensation control, the proposed control algorithm detection method andcomprehensive compensation current of single phase system, according to themethods of compensation strategy,design the hardware part of the active compensation device,finally, the East Lanzhou traction substation operation without power compensation data before and after the test results are analyzed, advantages of the compensation device for comprehensive design of the active control with diversity, fast response speed, wide adjustment range, harmonic suppression effect is good, small occupation area etc..The power quality problems can be effective governance in electrified railway.Finally, after combining the advantages of static var compensator and static var generator two, through the implementation of the project and can see the testmode has been more perfect reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression effect, effectively improve the quality of power supply of electrified railway. Therefore, the static reactive power compensation device in the futuredevelopment will gradually replace the fixed reactive power compensation, its advanced control theory and technology are able to meet the traction substationto achieve the effect of compensation.
