Objective: This study aims to investigate the main contradiction between the provider and consumer about nursing assistant in Putian, a prefecture city in Fujian province, and to put forward the corresponding countermeasures for improving the current management mode of nursing assistant.Methods: An empirical study was conducted by questionnaire and key informant interview to150randomly selected hospital staff,150hospitalized for more than1weeks of inpatient, respectively, from two general hospitals in Putian (Putian First Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Putian College),and3key informants among5intermediary companies. The questionnaire was used Epidata3.0software for data double entry. Data from survey was put into SPSS19.0data base, and was analyzed or described according to the corresponding to its types and distribution characteristics.Results: Seventy six point six percent of the medical staff suggested that their department need to hire nursing assistant. The overall satisfaction of hospital staff toward nursing assistant was not high, especially in the occupation morals, work ability and cooperation with medical staff. Whether employed nursing assistants in the past for the department was negatively related to the satisfaction to nursing assistants’ work ability, service quality and occupation morals, while the adequacy of professional nurses in the department was positively correlated to the satisfaction evaluation toward nursing assistants’ occupation moral, coordination and working execution.62.1%patients felt no need to hire nursing workers. The patients’ understanding to the necessity of employing nursing assistants is negatively related to its satisfaction to nursing workers’ service attitude, work ability, service quality and occupation morals, while the experience of employing nursing assistant in the past was positively related to the satisfaction to nursing assistants’ service attitude, work ability, quality of service and professional morals. In general, the nursing assistant in Putian area uneducated, lack of training, and most of them are older, female, and with strong liquidity. The biggest problem in its management is without standardized market and clear policy to support the development of nursing assistants.Conclusion: At present, the nursing assistants are demanded in Putian area, especially for the hospital. But the hospital staff is not highly satisfied to nursing assistants. On the contrary, the patients are not strongly demand to nursing assistants and their satisfaction to nursing assistant is relatively higher than hospital. However, as the provider, nursing assistants are still not fully meet the needs of the hospital and patients.Suggestion: Under the present situation and social background, the management to nursing assistant needs to strengthen from many dimensions, in which the role of the government is most important. The government should exert its function in the management of nursing assistants, improving the relevant legal systems and the industry policy, establishing the market access system and effective training system; secondly, the hospital and the intermediary company should cooperate with each other, to establish a common management mode toward nursing assistants, straighten out the relationship between two sides and indentify the nursing service scope; again, the nursing assistants should strengthen self-discipline, improve their own quality and the ability so as to meet the needs of the society.
