Objective:To investigate the cystathione beta synthase (CBS) gene T833C、G919A、844ins68mutation and plasma homocysteine (Hey) levels in Uyghur patients and Han patients with Essential Hypertension (EH) in Xinjiang.Methods:429cases including211Uyghur and218Han patients diagnosed by EH were admitted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University between September2011and May2013, while410population including210Uyghur ethnic and200Han ethnic were studied as control.Amplification refractory mutation system(ARMS) was adopted to analyze the gene polymorphism of CBS T833C,CBS G919A and CBS844ins68. Enzymoimmunoassay was applied to determine the plasma Hey, chemiluminescence was applied to determine the plasma folic acid and Vitamin B12. Results:Compared with the control, plasma Hey levels were significantly higher in EH group in both Uyghur and Han ethnic(P<0.05). There were significant differences in CBS G919A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) between EH patients and controls in both Uyghur and Han ethnic (Uyghur: x2=10.264, P<0.001; Han:x2=23.075, P<0.001). There were significant differences in CBS T833C SNP between EH patients and controls in Uyghur ethnic (x2=40.254, P<0.001). Plasma levels of Hey in heterozygous genotype and homozygotic genotype were statistically higher than wild genotype(P<0.05). The logistic regression analysis indicated age(OR=1.151, P=0.047,95%CI1.002-1.323)、CBS T833(CC)(OR=1.078,P=0.003,95%CI1.043-1.114)、Obesity(OR=1.284, P=0.021,95%CI1.038-1.590) hyperhomocysteine(OR=3.296,P=0.016,95%CI1.244-8.733)were independent risk factors for Uygur ethnic with EH while age(OR=1.162,P=0.007,95%CI1.042-1.297), hyperhomocysteine(OR=1.046,P=0.031,95%CI1.011-1.459)、Obesity (OR=3.501, P=0.003,95%CI1.521-8.060)were independent risk factors for Han ethnic after adjusting for confounding factors. Conclusion Age, Obesity and hyperhomocysteine are independent risk factors for Uyghur ethnic and Han ethnic with EH in Xinjiang, respectively. CBS T833C CC genotype may be associated with the Uygur patients with EH in Xinjiang.
