Drinking water has been more and more closely related with people’s health in their daily life. It is very important for people to supply enough drinking water with good quality in order to prevent disease, promote health and improve people’s living quality. By routine monitoring and comprehensive evaluating the drinking water quality, people can reveal the status and trends in drinking water quality, find the relationship between drinking water quality and public health, and provide a basis for policy-making of the government and ensure drinking water quality. Besides, the scientific and plain information of drinking water quality assessment is also the key to easily issue regular public bulletins and establish good communication channels with the public.Since we are facing the severe drinking water safety situation that needs to be resolved immediately, the problem that the ability of water quality testing department in the basic units is limited, and the strongly growing requirements from the public about information of urban drinking water quality assessment, we design this study which is based on the public health point of view. Delphi expert consultant method, was employed to screen drinking water quality index based on objectivity, authenticity, feasibility, scientificalness and the principle of protection of public health. The purpose of this study is to screen the drinking water quality indicators which are suitable for the water quality testing in the local institutes, and to find a right drinking water quality index (DWQI) which can be used by local institures to evaluate the urban drinking water quality, comparison of water quality index (WQI) modelings in the references. We hope that, by using the results of the study, the basic units can comprehensively evaluate the water quality, the administrative efficacy of the basic health management can be improved, and the public can easily understand the scientific and plain information of water quality assessment issued by the government.Part Ⅰ Analysis of the application and trend of development of the domestic and international WQIIn this part, we comprehensively analyze the classification, characteristics and limitations of all kinds of WQI in the domestic and international references; conclude the drinking water quality indicators and the mathematical models used by WQI, and briefly summarize the trend of WQI studying development.Part Ⅱ Application of Delphi expert consultant method to filter the drinking water quality indicators of DWQIIn the second part, we choose the drinking water quality parmeters from the first consultary form and the Standards for drinking water quality (GB5749-2006). Secondly, we use two round Delphi expert consultant method to screen and rank the parameters. The14drinking water quality parameters which are screen ultimately are suitable for the water quality testing department in the basic units, based on objectivity, authenticity, feasibility, scientificalness and the principle of protection of public health.Part Ⅲ Comparison the health-related DWQI and application with the data from the basic unitsIn the last part, we compare three kinds of WQI (An integrated index assessment system for drinking water, Fuzzy mathematics method, CCME WQI) by using the monitoring data from the finished water of water plant in PuTuo district, and the parameters. We are used are the14drinking water quality indicators which are screen in Part Ⅱ. Meanwhile, we classify and analyze the results of water quality evaluation by using the three kinds of WQI.
