ObjectiveTo explore the application strategy of mind mapping in basic nursingteaching of Secondary vocational education,evaluate its application effect,and provide the beneficial reference for the promotion and application ofmind mapping in the secondary vocational nursing education.MethodsSelected133students, including128girls and5boys from2nursingclasses on grade2012in Chongqing Medical and Health School with theconvenience sampling method which divided the students intoexperimental group and the control group. The experimental groupwas adopted the mind mapping with traditional teaching method and thecontrol group with traditional teaching method. The researcher taught the2classes in the same content (including theory teaching and experimentteaching) and progress. Theory examination and skills assessmentwere carried out in the two groups at the end of the course, the form and content of examinations were the same.24students inexperimental group were randomly selected by the researcher at the endof the course for interview focusing on the theme of “talk about yourunderstanding of mind maps”. Data processing and statistical analysiswere carried out with the SPSS18.0statistical analysis package, thedifferences of measurement data were compared with the t test.Results1. The scores of the final theory test and skill test in experimental groupwere higher than the control group,The difference was statisticallysignificant (P<0.01).2. The interviews for the students were extracted into five themes: mindmapping helped students to preview and review; allowed the students tothink with better clarity when they were listening to the teacher,improved the students’ autonomous learning ability and thinking abilityand suggested the teacher to send the mind mapping syllabus to studentsbefore class..ConclusionMind mapping pedagogy improved the vocational nursing students’ testscores. It is beneficial to develop self-learning ability, problem solving andthinking ability of vocational nursing students. Mind maps teaching methodcan be applied in the secondary vocational nursing teaching.
