Astragalus radix (Huang qi) is the root of Astragalus membranaceus (Fish) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao, or Astragalus membranaceus (Fish.) Bge., which is an important tradition Chinese medical of Leguminosae family, and was first recorded in Ben cao gang mu. It can strength the superficial resistance, and to promote the discharge of pus and the growth of new tissue, and has been used as a tonic and diuretic for many years. Euonymus alatus is the twig and attachments of Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) sieb., a member of Euonymus genus of Celastraceae. It was first recorded in Sheng Nong Ben Cao Jing. It has been used for regulating blood circulation, relieving pain, eliminating blood stagnation, and treating dysmenorrhea in oriental countries for many years. In order to obtain more information about the chemical composition of Astragalus radix and Euonymus alatus, we carried phytochemical studies on chemical constituents of Astragalus radix and Euonymus alatus. The major results of present thesis including:1. Through a variety of separation methods, twenty compounds were separated from Astragalus radix, and identified nineteen of them, including four new compounds, i.e. calycosin-7-O-β-D-{6"-[(E)-oct-2-enoyl]}-glucoside (4), (6aR, 11aR) methylnissolin-7-O-β-D-{6’-[(E)-oct-2-enoyl]}-glucoside (5),6"-(E)-oct-2-enoyl-ononin (6), (6aR,11a/R) methylnissolin-3-O-(5"-O-feruloyl)-β-D-apiofuranosyl-1â†'6)-β-D-glucopyranoside (12), and (3R) isomucronulatol-7-O-β-D-(6"-acetyl)-glucoside (11) was a compound separated from naural product for the first time。2. Eleven compounds were obtained from Euonymus alatus, including two new compounds, catechin lactone A (7) and 8-(2-pyrrolidinone-5-yl)-catechin (11)。The results of present study not only strengthen our knowledges of chemical constituents of Astragalus radix and Euonymus alatus, but also provided useful information for quality control, clinic use and other pharmacological studies of them.
