ObjectiveThe author probed into the Traditional Chinese Medicine symptoms and the symptoms’influencing factors of 209 cases of patients with alopecia areata according to their basic information like their age, gender, marital status, vocation and the diseases’related factors like the course of disease, family medical history, recurrent history, diseased parts and clinical examination. By collecting, discussing and inducing all the information above, the paper is focused on the change rules of the five viscera so as to provide effective evidence for the clinical syndrome’s accuracy and so improve therapeutic efficacy.MethodsThe author got 209 confirmed cases of alopecia areata in the dermatology clinic and wards of Guangdong Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital(General Hospital) according to the diagnostic criteria of alopecia areata. After studying the patients’diseases, the author divided them according to their diseases, evaluated their diseased parts and accompanying syndrome and then builded an Excel database. Thanks to the Stata 12.0 and the Spss 17.0 statistical software, the author cleared up the data in the database,, deleted and combined the nuisance variables and similar variables, and finally got 209 patients’complete data to do descriptive statistical analysis and factor analysis of their syndrome of the five viscera.ResultsAfter analyzing, the writer found 114male patients(54.5% of all), and 95female(45.4%). According to their age, the writer got 16 patients(7.66%) younger than 14,69 (33.01%) between 15 and 30,115(55.02%) between 31 and 59, and 9(4.31%) from 60 to 73 years old. Among them, the writer got 77 workers (36.84%),6 peasants(2.87%),14 cadres(6.70%), retired people(9.09%) and others(mainly students,44.50%).As for the clinical types, the writer found 1 patient of Wet type trapped spleen deficiency(0.48%),3 of liver depression blood stasis(1.44%), 4 of asthenia of Qi and blood(1.91%),8 of blood heat and wind(3.83%),33 of liver kidney Yin deficiency(15.79%),66 of insufficiency of the liver and kidney (31.58%) and 94 of asthenia of both the spleen and kidney (44.98%).According to the analysis of the 209 patients’past clinical data, the writer got the following results:the minimum course of disease is about 1 day, the maximum course is 12 years. Besides,29(13.88%) patients’ syndrome last less than one month,150(71.77&) not longer than and 30(14.35%)over one year. Among the patients, there are 9(4.31%) having family medical history and 200(95.6%) without. The writer also found 9 patients(4.31%) having recurrent history and 200(95.69%) without.Including different levels of round and oval areas of alopecia, the writer got the analysis of the collected 209patients’five viscera syndromes as followings:the spleen syndrome mainly has clinical features as spleen deficiency and Qi and blood deficiency, like weakness of limbs, fatigued body and lack of strength, loose stool and pale tongue, and so on; the renal syndrome mainly features as deficiency of kidney-essence and insufficiency of kidney-Yang, the patients usually have soreness and weakness of waist and knees, backache, extreme chilliness, dizziness and tinnitus and so on; the liver syndrome often features as abnormal functions, they often feel dizzy, has bitter taste and wiry pulse; the lung syndrome mainly features as deficiency of Lung Qi and lack of lung-Yin, the patients often feel fatigued, have shortness of breath, dry mouth and throat, and red tongue; while the heart syndrome mainly features as deficiency of heart-blood, they have fatigued spirit, insomnia, amnesia, pale little fur and weak pulse.According to the factor analysis, the writer believes the key elements of syndrome include sputum, humidity, wind, especially deficiency. The disease locations mainly lie in spleen, liver and kidney. What’s more, the writer has got four TCM syndromes:both spleen Qi deficiency and Qi-Yin deficiency, Yang deficiency of spleen and kidney, deficiency of both heart and spleen and liver and kidney deficiency injury syndrome.ConclusionThe study has proved that the patients of alopecia areata are mainly in their middle age(aged from 31 to 59), because the middle-aged have much life pressure from their jobs, children and parents. They are in the middle, they have to bear all the pressure. Besides, their health is also going down. All these made them suffer from alopecia areata and even some of them suffered twice or more.Speaking of five viscera syndromes, it is resulted from five internal organs lesions. What’s more, it will also transmit to each other, especially among the spleen, kidney and liver, including one’s hair, skin and fresh. The patients may mainly have round or oval areas of alopecia, weak limbs, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, feeling dizzy, having loose stool and pale tongue. While the lung and heart syndromes often feature as lazy words, shortness of breath, common cold, pale tongue and weak pulse. The conclusion of the clinical five viscera syndromes can be the reference of the TCM diagnosis and treatment. It’s main syndrome factor is deficiency, the main disease locations lie in spleen, kidney and liver. There are four main TCM syndromes:both spleen Qi deficiency and Qi-Yin deficiency, Yang deficiency of spleen and kidney, deficiency of both heart and spleen and liver and kidney deficiency injury syndrome.
