Objectives To provide the basic re ference for the health education and occupational protection education on preventing against tuberculosi s among nursing st udents in Hengyang city, current situation of their Knowledge, Attitude and Practice or Behaviors(KAP) about lung tuberculosis prevention and influent factors were investigated, the intervention mode and its effects were studied. Methods: Based on “Knowledge, Attitude, Behaviors(KAP)” theory, “Questionnaire of KAP of lung tu berculosis protection for nursing students” was prepared. The current situation of lung tuberculosis KAP among 380 nursing students, who we re from a third-gra de class-A hospital in Hengyang city of Hunan province, was investigated. A total of 360 valid questionnaire were used to statistically analyze the data and the influent factors for the students’ KAP of lung tuberculosis. By cross sectional study, 134 nursing students were evenly and randomly divided into the control group(n=67) and the intervention group(n=67). Except of the conventional health education gi ven for two groups, the intervention group was given the tuberculosis KAP intervention for 6 months. Then the effects of KAP intervention of tuberculosis prevention for the nursing students were assessed by com paring KAP of lung tuberculosis levels before and after the intervention between the control group and the intervention group. The data were input into EXCEL and analyzed by SPSS20.0. The statistical methods involv ed in the T-test, factor analysis of variance, regression as well as repe ated measures analysis of variance, and etc. Results: 1. Of 360 nursi ng students, the total sc ores of KAP of lung tuberculosis protection were 97.30±5.99; the aver age scores of lung tuberculosis protection knowledge were 16.92±3. 44, among the scores of its dimensions, the highest was the dim ension of transmission(0.76±0.17), the lowest was the dimension of chemical drug treatment(0.55±0.23); the average scores of lung tuberculosis protection attitudes were 44.55±7.00, among the scores of its dimensions, the highest was the dimension of attitudes towards tuberculosis(4.01±0.71), the lowest was th e dimension of versus factors to incent tuberculosis(3.35±0.75); the average scores of lung tuberculosis protection behavior were 37.91±7.55, and the average scores of its items were(3.79±0.75).2. There were statistically significan t difference for the scores of lung tuberculosis KAP among nursing students in dif ferent ages, educational level, hospital departments, mentors’ nursing years as well as experience of lung tuberculosis training(P<0.05), but not am ong different gender, racist, reside region of nursing student(P>0.05).3. Before the intervention, there wer e not significant dif ference for the demographic data and the scores of KAP of lung tuberculosis between the intervention group and the control group( P>0.05). After the intervention for 6 m onths, there were not obvi ous difference in the control for the scores of KAP of lung tuberculosis or the scores of every dimension between before and after the intervention, either the total scores or the scores of each dimension of KAP of lung tuberculosis among the students in the intervention group were higher than those before the intervention(P<0.05); their scores in t he intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions: 1. The KAP of lung tubercul osis of the nursing students at a hospital in Hengyang city were at the medium levels.2. Age, education level, experience of lung tuberculosis training were the main influent factors for KAP of lung tuberculosis of the nursing students.3. The intervention training of tuberculosis KAP for the nursing students could enhance the levels of their lung tuberculosis protection knowledge, and improve their service attitudes to patients and their behavior.
