| Aim:To compare the clinical efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)with which of modern medicine on fever caused by cold or flu. Method:The 799 cases of flu and fever, which met the diagnostic criteria, were divided into TCM treatment group and modern medicine treatment group randomly. In TCM treatment group, patients were assorted into three types according to TCM theory depending on their symptom and administered with correspondent Chinese herbal decoction for 5 days. In modern medicine group, patients with mild or moderate symptoms were treated with Ribavirin liquid orally 5ml three times a day for 5 days, while patients with serious symptoms were treated with Oseltamivir Phosphate Capsules 5mg,2 times a day for 5 days. The clinical symptom scores, fever onset time, time of temperature back to normal, the total efficiency of two groups were compared before and after treatment. Results:The clinical syndrome symptom scores in both group were significantly lower after treatment, but no obvious differences could be found between two groups. Less patients had the symptoms of nasal obstruction, runny nose, sore throat, loss of appetite in Chinese medicine group compared with modern medicine group(P<0.05). The fever onset time in western medicine group were much shorter than Chinese medicine group (P<0.05) And compared with Chinese medicine group, it took much longer to observe the body temperature returning to normal in western medicine group(P<0.05). There were no significant difference between two groups in total clinical efficiency, which was 93.2% in Chinese medicine group and 88% in modern medicine group. Conclusion:Both Chinese medicine and Western medicine are effective on the treatment on fever induced by colds/flu. The onset time of decreasing body temperature in western medicine is shorter, but it took less time to observe the body temperature returning to normal in Chinese medicine group after treatment and the clinical symptoms could be improved in the same group. |
