Objective:The aim is to investigate the therapeutic effects of ZhuangJin XuGu Decoction (ZJXG Decoction) on bone morphogenetic protein-7(BMP-7) and insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and transforming growth factor β1(TGFβ1) levels.Methods:In72male adult Wistar rats, the femur fractures at middle point were generated by cutting femur transversely and by administering orally ZJXG Decoction after surgery for7-28d. By X-ray, anatomy and HE staining to detected the healing process in rats. By enzyme linked immunobsorbent assay (ELISA) to determine the serum levels of BMP-7and IGF-1, bFGF and TGFβ1.Results:The fibrous callus tissue at the femoral fracture-end by X-ray imaging and gross anatomy indicated that increased and the fracture line became fuzzy at7-14d following treatment with ZJXG Decoction. The fibrous-granular tissue at the fracture-end changed gradually to fibrous, cartilaginous and osseous callus tissues showed by HE staining. The serum levels of BMP-7, IGF-1, bFGF and TGFβ1by ELISA results increased significantly28days after treating with ZJXG Decoction, compared to control group. Conclusion:This paper’s resualts suggested that ZJXG Decoction could reduce the decomposition of BMP-7and IGF-1, bFGF and TGFβ1and enhancing their activities to enhance the fracture healing precess.
