Feverish perspiration is a description of infants and young children’s growth and development which is sketched by ancient doctors of Chinese medicine. From China’s oldest Pediatric books-Luxin Jing on, there are so many academic records on feverish perspiration, include Mai Jing in Jin dynasty, Zhubing Yuanhou Lun in Sui dynasty, Qianjin Yaofang in Tang dynasty, Xiaoer Yaozheng Zhijue, Youyou Xinshu and Quanying Fanglun in Song dynasty, and so on. Then the writer turned over modern literatures, it is found that the scholars’ study on feverish perspiration involves a wide range of knowledge, but it isn’t up to a certain depth. Besides, in the current society, doctors usually use antibiotics, hormones and other drugs when children get a fever, as a matter of fact, this really causes great harm to children’s physical and mental health. Therefore, the research on feverish perspiration is both relevant to Chinese medical literature and clinic. This is why the writer began to the research and writing of this thesis. This study is based on ancient Chinese medical books before1911in the general pediatric theories of Complete Bibliography of Chinese Medicine Classics and some medical formularies and Comprehensive medical books. The total number of the books is over120, among which the number of ancient pediatric books is over100. With previous research experience and using research methods of literature and history, the writer was about to write the thesis. On one hand, we will achieve the aim of verifying the origins and branches of TCM academy by research; on the other hand, we can analyse feverish perspiration’s mechanism, cycle, symptoms and therapy to sum up a diagnosis and treatment specifications. The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is about feverish perspiration’s concept. We summed up three meanings in order to show the relationships among feverish perspiration, viscera, qi and blood, and essence of life. Awareness of ancient Chinese scholars about the meaning of "Bian" remains open, includes the rise in gas, or the variation and differentiation; but the meaning of "Zheng" is widely accepted, it means fever. After all,"Bian" refers to imperceptible influence,"Zheng" refers to more and more prosperous, after feverish perspiration, children’s physical and mental health are both strengthened. The second part is about description of feverish perspiration in the pediatric population in ancient Chinese medical books. The witer wants to illuminate feverish perspiration’s academic status and ancient docters’ attitude changes toward it. From Han to Southern and Northern dynasties, feverish perspiration is roughly divided into child diseases. In Sui and Tang dynasties, feverish perspiration is discoursed specially independent of the pediatric diseases, and is always layed in the earlier position, which reveals its importance. In Song dynasty, feverish perspiration is clearly distinguished from congenital fetal diseases, neonatal diseases and child diseases. Doctors in Jin dynasty lean to elaborate feverish perspiration with pediatric nursing, in the meantime, feverish perspiration is also divided into child diseases. Doctors in Yuan Dynasty turn to put feverish perspiration into many kinds of heat syndromes. By the Ming Dynasty, a remarkable change is that some scholars directly put feverish perspiration into miscellaneous diseases. In Qing Dynasty, feverish perspiration is no longer holding the mainstream position. The third part is research on feverish perspiration’s contents. It can be divided into three steps. Firstly, fully collated the ancient Chinese medical books; secondly, wrote informative abstract for every book; finally, made comparison and analysis of feverish perspiration’s mechanism, cycle, symptoms and therapy. By analyzing the academic heritage’s models and features, we can see two classic styles of collation of ancient Chinese medical books. One is upholding a factual and realistic work attitude, the other is sticking to that one should make use of what one has learned. They are complementary and indispensable, whatever you use, it must be of benefit to ancient Chinese medical literature. The fourth part is exploratory discussion on feverish perspiration’s academic heritage. Collation of ancient Chinese medical books has a close relationship with academic heritage, by analyzing and researching feverish perspiration’s contents, we can comb clues of feverish perspiration’s academic heritage. The best academic feature of feverish perspiration lies in two aspects:the theory and the diagnosis and treatment. Feverish perspiration’s theory has a certain origin relation, it is forged with yin-yang theory, five element theory and "Zhou Yi", and the theoretical foundation in the development of traditional Chinese medicine is also derived from the same origin. Feverish perspiration’s diagnosis and treatment has formulated a set of diagnostic standards, such as fever, coldness in ear and hip,"Bianzheng Zhuzi", horripilation, changes of eyes’ color and "Rijiao", pulse manifestation and fingerprint, and so on. The most qualitative diagnostic criterion is "Bianzheng Zhuzi". Others such as cycle,"Zangfu Biansheng Cidi" and "Anbian", the writer believes that it is related to gender, body constitution, and nursing. The last part is conclusion. Infantile feverish perspiration is of course existent and is accepted as a physiological phenomenon. Feverish perspiration is mainly presented as micro-heat, which occurs once about32days, and is seen in infants less than576days. If there is no feverish perspiration or the doctor took hypermedications, they will both do great harm to children. After a clear diagnosis, no drugs are recommended, neither are acupuncture and moxibustion, one should wait until it subsides. If feverish perspiration is mixed with other pathogenic factors, one should take symptomatic treatments. But medication and nursing are just supplementary means, we sometimes use them to provide assistance aids when feverish perspiration is happening. Besides, we must admit that cycle,"Zangfu Biansheng Cidi" and "Anbian" are also existent, but children may behave differently in different circumstances, this is related to gender, body constitution, and nursing.
