The Growth And Development Status Of Primary School Students In Zhangpu Town Of Kunshan In The Year Of2012

Objective: We aim to know about the status of physical development andnutrition of pupils through analyzing the data of physical examination of primaryschool students in2012. And we could provide evidence for the prevention and healthcare work of pupils and furthermore formulating appropriate school health workpolicy.Methods: We collected the data of physical examination of primary schoolstudents during the year of2012. We assessed the distribution of height, weight，obesity and malnutrition based on different gender, age and source of students. Thefollowing criteria was selected:“Chinese students growth standard percentileevaluation form based on physical and health survey of0-18years old children andadolescent”，“BMI classification standards for screening overweight and obesityof Chinese young school children”，“the WHO of male and female students height forage screening growth retardation value”.Results:1. The height and weight of most of the students in Zhangpu town are atthe medium level. There is significant difference between the different gender andsource of pupils (p＜0.05). The students from the town was higher than those from therural areas (p＜0.05), and there were two growth crosses between the boys and girlsfrom the town areas2. The students from the town was heavier than those from the rural areas (p＜0.05), and the boys were heavier than the girls(p＜0.05).3. The number of students with overweight or obesity from the town were lessthan that from the rural areas(p＜0.05), and the detection rate of boys were higherthan that of girls(p＜0.05)4. There is no difference between the town and the rural concerning the malnutrition condition of the students, and the detection rate of boys were lower thanthat of girls (p＜0.05);Conclusions: The data of physical examination of primary school students ofZhangpu town in2012showed the height and weight growth were at an appropriatelevel. However, the problem of overweight and obesity and the malnutrition did exist.Therefore, the responsible government departments should take effective measures tostrengthen the health promotion and training of the primary school students among thepupils, the parents and the society. Family, school and the whole society should knowtheir roles and responsibilities, and make joint effort to help the pupils develop rightand healthy dietary and living habits, thus to promote the health development ofprimary school students.
