Purpose:According to representative medical classics from Jin and YuanDynasty, this thesis collected materials related to spleen-organ and reorganizedand summarized its anatomical form, physiological function, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and healthcare, aimed to provide literary bases for theinnovation and succession of spleen-organ theory.materials and methods:1.ascertain information sourceIn Jin and Yuan Dynasty, Liu Hejian, Zhang Jiegu and Li Dongyuan from northernpart, as well as Zhu Danxi from southern part are together called “four Greatphysicians of Jin and Yuan Dynasty”.Their academic ideas represent thedevelopment conditions of spleen and stomach doctrines in Jin and Yuan Dynasty. Then, there were two great medical schools in the northern part. One was “HeJian School”represented by Liu Hejian; The other one was “Yi Shui school”represented by Zhang Yuansu.Apart from this, there were also some otheraccomplished physicians in Jin and Yuan Dynasty, such as Hua Shou, DaiQizong. Therefore, we take the “four Great physicians of Jin and YuanDynasty”,two great medical schools and Hua Shou, Dai Qizong as routes, to makesure the thesis-related materials as follow:Su Wen Xuan Ji Yuan Bing Shi.Su Wen Bing Ji Qi Yi Bao Ming Ji.PiWeilun.NeiWai Sang Bian Huo Lun.Ru Men Shi Qin.Wei Sheng Bao Jian.Yin Zheng Lue Li.ZhenJia Shu Yao. Mai Jue Kan Wu.Dan Xi Xin Fa.Yi Xue Qi Yuan.Ge Zhi Yu Lun.Shi Yi De Xiao Fang.2.Analyses and Abstraction of MaterialsBy application of literary reorganization and theoretical analysis method, this thesis analyzed the comprehensive factors related to spleen-organ doctrinein each classic, such as anatomical morphology, spleen associations, etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treating principles and methods as well as healthcare. Moreover, the historical and cultural background of the classics are also takeninto account.3.Information InductionSummarizing and reorganizing correlated information.Conclusion:1.The theory of spleen-stomach was created in Jin and Yuan Dynasty. Spleenand stomach serve as root of life, which govern transporting water and food, and transforming qi and blood for the human body. They are also pivot ofqi-ascending and qi-descending. Coordination of qi-ascending and qi-descendingfacilitates distribution of refined substance to various zang-fu organs as wellas joints and tissues.2.Spleen and stomach are fairly important in five-zang and six-fu organs.Imbalanced diets, overstrain, emotional problems and dampness are consideredto be the most vital factors leading to spleen-stomach disorders. This thesisclearly differentiated engorgement and alcoholism in terms of spleen-stomachdisorders from diet; While clarified heat within deficiency and cold withindeficiency in morbid spleen-stomach from overstrain, which emphasized thatspleen and stomach are original power in nourishing primordial qi, and putforward the concept of “various diseases due to impairment of internal spleenand stomach”. The concept illustrates that disturbance of qi and fire, failureof clear qi in ascending, exuberant dampness, cold attack and heat attack areimportant pathogenesis of spleen-stomach disorders.3. As for the internal impairment of spleen and stomach, practitioners from Jin and Yuan Dynasty put forward treating principle of “ascending spleen-yang”and created some effective formula like Buzhong Yiqi tang, Shengyang Sanhuo tang,Bupi Xinyin Huosheng Yang tang, Shunqi Hezhong tang, Yiwei Shengyangtang.Meanwhile, they also focused on methods of purgation and emesis which aresignificant on treating spleen-stomach disorders.4.This paper involved the relevant contents of spleen in the ancient booksduring Jinyuan period, There is no clear distinction between spleen and stomachin aspects of physiological function, etiology, diagnosis and treatment; Andthere is confusion of the concept, for example,spleen-qi is equal to spleen Yang.5.Physicians in Jinyuan period discussed a lot about the theory of spleengoverning transportation and transformation, while relatively insufficientunderstanding of theory of the spleen controlling blood was presented. The twophysiological function of spleen failed to develop simultaneously. In Jin and Yuan Dynasty, practitioners objectively summarized the developregularity of spleen-stomach doctrine based on overall succession. Theircomplements to spleen-stomach doctrine set foundation for perfection of lateraccomplishments theoretically and clinically.
