Aims: The aim of this study was to measure and compare maternal plasma SHBG concentrations in normal pregnancy and in GDM patients, and thereafter determine the association between SHBG and GDM.Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, case-control study with a total of 60 participants in their third trimester of pregnancy. The control group had 28 women versus 32 women in the GDM/case group. Maternal serum SHBG was measured and compared between the two groups. Results: The mean age in all participants was 28.35±4.38 years. SHBG concentrations were lower in GDM group(n=32, SHBG= 53.64±31.91) compared to the control group(n=28, SHBG= 71.33±30.58)(p <0.05).Conclusion: SHBG levels were significantly lower in pregnant women with GDM, therefore, SHBG can, in the future, be used as both a diagnostic and monitoring tool in patients with GDM.
