Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect of Xuebijing injection on Sepsis Patients and its underlying mechanism. Methods: 60 cases of sepsis patients in our hospital from February 2014 to February 2015 were treated, according to the order of admission packet, the patients were divided into two groups: the conventional standard treatment group(control group, n = 30) and the conventional standard treatment plus Xuebijing treatment group(the observation group, n = 30). The general syndrome, the cytokines and T lymphocyte contents in plasma, and blood coagulation function were analyzedResults: There were no significantly difference between the two groups of patients before treatment and 1st d after treatment in plasma parameters,APACHE II score and Marshall score. in 3rd day after treatment, the plasma TNF-α and IL-6 levels were decreased obviously compared with those before treatment both in control group and in observation group(P <0.05 or 0.01).The levels of CD3+T and NK cell were increased in observation group compared with those before treatment(P<0.05 or 0.01). The plasma TNF-αlevel was lower while the NK cell level was higher in observation group than those in control group(P <0.01 respectively). The plasma TNF-α and IL-6levels in the two groups of patients decreased continuously on the 7th d after treatment(P <0.01 respectively), and the plasma CD3+T, CD4+T, and NK cell levels were elevated((P<0.05 or 0.01). The plasma TNF-α levels were lower while CD3 + T and NK levels were higher in the observation group than those in the control group significantly(P<0.01respectively). 10 d after treatment, the plasma TNF alpha and IL- 6 levels were significantly reduced while the levels of T CD3 +, CD4 + T cells, CD8 + T, and NK were increased in both groups(P < 0.01respectively), TNF alpha level in observation group wasobviously lower than that of control group(P< 0.01), while the CD3 + T and NK levels were significantly higher than those in control group(P< 0.01respectively). Both the plasma CRP level and APACHE II scores in the two groups of patients were significantly lower compared with those before treatment(P <0.05 or 0.01), and the effects were more obvious in the observation group compared with that in the control group(P<0.01), The Marshall scores were lower in the observation group compared with that before treatment( P < 0.05). The results of thrombelastography(TEG) showed that blood cell aggregate formation time(k), coagulation time(r), and the clotting time(r + k) in observation group were significantly shorter than those in control group(P <0.01,respectively). The coagulation index(CI), maximum amplitude(Ma), and blood cell aggregate formation rate(α) in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group(P<0.01,respectively). ICU stay time in observation group(14.92 ± 4.45)d was significantly shorter than that in control group(26.82 ± 4.92)d(P <0.01).Conclusion: The therapeutic effects of conventional standard therapy on patients with sepsis may be caused by reducing the level of inflammatory cytokines, enhancing both immune and anticoagulation function. Xuebijing facilitates both the decrement of the inflammatory cytokines and the enhancement of immune and anticoagulant function of cells caused by conventional standard therapy. In addition, Xuebijing injection reduces the severity of the patient’s symptom and improves the prognosis.
