Clinical Observation Of Homemade Herbal Formula For Thetreatment Of Elderly Patients With Qi Asthenia And Blood-stasis Isolated Systolic Hypertension

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of a homemade Chinese traditional medicine formula combined withamlodipine besylate in aged patients with Qi Asthenia and Blood-Stasis Isolated Systolic Hypertension.Methods: 66 patients who were clinical diagnosis for elderly isolated systolic hypertension, and defined as the subtype of Qi Asthenia were randomly assigned to control(n=33) and test(n=33) group. Control group patients received an amlodipine besylate treatment; test grouppatients received an amlodipine besylate treatment in addition tohomemade herbal formula as a decoction. There was no statisticsignificant difference between the two groups in age, gender, course of disease, and all patients in two groups both received treatment for a total of 14 days.We also assessed the changes in seated systolic blood pressure, seated diastolic blood pressure, Pulse pressure difference,TCM clinical symptoms, TCM syndrome efficacy and safety indicators before and after treatment in each group.Results: 1.Comparation on the clinical global impression: After two weeks treatment, the test group have higher antihypertensive efficacy ratecompared with the control group. The systolic blood pressures reduce rate of test group systolic blood pressures reduce rate is more significant than that in the control group(P < 0.05).2. Evaluation of the TCM syndrome efficacy: Patients in both two groups get improved TCM clinical symptoms after two weeks treatment, and the test group was significantly better than the control group(P < 0.05).Conclusion: This clinical observation shows: the treatment of Yiqihuoxue decoction can significantly Lower systolic blood pressure,Narrow pulse pressure difference and improve the clinical symptoms of elderly patients with Qi asthenia and blood-stasis Isolated systolichypertension.
