| Objectives:To investigate the suicide ideation prevalence of clinicians among Nanning county hospitals, explore the related psychological and social factors, and offer the realistic basis and policy suggestions to reduce the suicide ideation prevalence, improve physical and mental health and constructing harmonious relationship between clinician and patient.Methods:An investigation on suicide ideation of 419 clinicians was carried out in eight Nanning county hospitals from 1st May 2014 to 1st August 2015, using Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation(BSI-CV),General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-12),Job Stress Scale(JSS),Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS),and Trait Coping Style Questionnaire(TCSQ).This study used Epidata3.1 for data double entry and SPSS 17.0 for data x2 test, t test, multiple-factors unconditioned Logistic regression analysis and other statistical analysis.Results:(1) The incidence of suicidal ideation for 419 clinicians’was 17.42%,16.67% for male clinicians,18.14% for female clinicians,26.53% for unmarried clinicians, and 14.64% for married clinicians.(2) The incidence of suicidal ideation for 419 clinicians in Nanning county hospitals exists marked difference in marriage status, age, working age, medical department (P<0.05), and no significant difference in gender, education, professional title (P>0.05).(3) The incidence of abnormal mental health for 419 clinicians in Nanning county hospitals was 26%.(4) There is a high level of job stress for 419 clinicians,who experienced medium and high degree of stress accounted for 52.7% and 21.5% respectively. Furthermore, clinicians’ job stress comes from work nature (79%), relationship between clinician and patient (63.7%) and career development(47%).(5) Simple factor analysis for suicidal ideation of 419 clinicians in Nanning county hospitals displays that marked difference exists between suicidal ideation group and the other on these factors, mental health condition, job stress, time stress, perceived support from family, perceived support from friends and others, negative coping style and positive coping style (P<0.05).(6)Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis showed that single, job anxiety of JSS, abnormal mental health of GHQ-12 and negative coping style of TCSQ are the risk factors for suicidal ideation in county hospital clinicians(OR>1); and perceived support from friends of PSSS and positive coping style of TCSQ are protective factors(OR<1).Conclusions:(1) There is a high incidence of suicidal ideation for 419 clinicians among Nanning county hospitals, so does the psychological abnormal rate, which is higer than other groups. (2) The risk factors for suicidal ideation in county hospital clinicians main contain single, job anxiety, abnormal mental health and negative coping style; and perceived friends’ support and positive coping style as protective factors. (3) There is a high level of job stress for 419 clinicians,which comes mainly from work nature, clinician-patient relationship and career development. (4) As the high incidence and diversified risk factors for suicidal ideation in county hospitals clinicians, a suitable suicide intervention and prevention system for clinicians should be explored, strengthening the humanistic care to clinicians, which is badly in need, to improve the quality of clinical doctors life. |
