Loong Mother worship is an important branch of Loong belief. Accompanied with thedevelopment of Loong belief, it sprouted early but finally formed until the Tang Dynasty. Then,it ushered the peak period during Song Dynasty.There were plenty of Loong Mother during Song period, and between them, there were nosame image.The prototypes of them include ordinary people, celebrity relatives, and alsoLoong sharps. They have various functions such as regulate rainfull and inundation, giveassistance in fortification, bless the war successfully, etc.During Song Dynasty, temples of Loong Mother spread all over the world. The northernregion like Gyeonggi Road, He bei Road, He dong Road, Qin feng Road and Jing dong Road,all had appeared in the temples. What’s more, the temples dotted all over the sourth area,Cheng du Road, Jing hu Road, Kui zhou Road, Huai nan Road, Liang zhe Road, and Ling nanregion are all the prevalent areas of the Loong Mother worship. Especially, the temple of Yuecheng Loong Mother, which was Located in Ling nan Road, not only been conferred repeatedly,but also established temples out of Ling nan area, and the belief of this Loong Mother formedan regional belief.There were many causes for its popularity in the Song Dynasty, mainly includes theeconomic structure based on agriculture, constant floods and droughts, Confucian ethics’socialtendency, prosperous Buddhist forces and the Propaganda by officials and literati.Throughout the Song dynasty, although the range of Loong Mother belief was veryextensive, and also appeared regional belief, but it did not form a unified national belief afterall.The reasons for this situation besides its own functions and strong provincialism, the attitudeof Song government also was an important factor. The government granted Loong Mother aslong as prayers were answered, but the conduct of donnot distinguish identities and originsresulting in there were generated a large number of new Loong Mother.
