Investigation On "Asl" Music Of Chahar Region

"Asl" is a Mongolian traditional instrumental music, is one of theunique music of Chahar region, belongs to string and wind music categorywith pleasures feature, which spreads in the south-central and XilinGol andmost areas of wulanchab in Inner Mongolia. In this paper, studied "asl" onbasis of the research results of senior scholars, integrated ethnic theory,conducted5field works for in-depth investigation in Chahar region of InnerMongolia which is the area "asl" spreads in. During the investigation, theauthor recorded interviews, organized them into first-hand information onthe "asl" music and put forward new ideas on its production, development,protection of heritage. In the literature review, with comparative study of amultidisciplinary approach, interpreted it from all angles."Asl" as the oldest traditional Mongolian instrumental music, has along history and unique cultural background. This paper based on fieldwork,carded the status of "asl" music Chahar region and summarized specificpopular areas of "asl" music. On the basis of preliminary studies, author putforward own ideas on the generation of asl music era, names and concepts,artistic characteristics and the protection of heritage, and put efforts to fillvacant senior scholars’studies, hope for the study would play a catalytic rolein researches on Mongolian traditional music. By organizing materials,analyzed its artistic character and playing style and reflected on currentsurvival situation of "asl" from the perspective of anthropology. Chaharculture represents the mainstream of prairie culture; its traditionalinstrumental music occupies an important position in Mongolian instrumental music history. In today’s pop music dominated fashion, theessence of traditional folk music was ignored and neglected by people, aslonly spread in a small part of the population and regions, and it is about tolose the historical significance of its existence. Asl instrumental music is amicrocosm of the Mongolian traditional music, represents the status andposition of traditional music in the field as well as the problems it faced.Research on asl is also a good entry point to prairie musical culture study,and the study on prairie arts and culture through asl study has deep historicalsignificance on development and richness of traditional folk art. From theperspective of heritage and protection,"asl" is facing unprecedentedchallenges; this paper presents suggestions from several aspects to thisproblem, and summarized innovative ideas.This paper aims to through deep digging in "asl"’s unique connotationto broaden horizons, elevate the Mongolian traditional music arts to a higherinternationalized level, facilitate the research work for the futureethnomusicologist and do some contribution to development of Mongoliantraditional music...
