Under the globalization background today, more and more topics caught people’sattention, such as: international relations, ethnic and racial problems, the human rightscampaign, aging problems, etc. This translation text is chosen from the book ofEthnicity and race, written by Stephen Cornel and Douglas Hartman, which explainthe relationship and difference between ethnicity and race from the view of sociology.During the pre-translation process, the author reads and analyzes the original textfor many times, choosing the Text Type Theory as the theoretical direction and theCommunicative Translation as translation strategy to translate the text. In themeantime, the author overcomes translation barriers of special terms and terms loadedwith specific cultural and religion background information by the use of relevantbooks and networks. After the translation, the author modifies and improves thetranslation text again and again before it gets finalized.After the translation process, the author makes a detailed analysis of thetranslation barriers in relation to vocabulary, sentence structures and so on. As thismaterial for translation belongs to the informational text type and the content of thebook is of social science, which includes formal style and a large number of long andcomplex sentences, it requires comprehensive application of various translation skillsand numerous modifications for a better translation version.In conclusion, the author receives a lot of gains and inspirations from thistranslation practice. While enhancing translation level, I also further improve theabilities of reading the original texts, checking for information and analyzingvocabularies and sentences.
