| Self-concept is an option of oneself and for his awareness of therelationship with the surrounding, determines how to explain his behavior andhow to act. Junior middle school period is very important for the formation ofego identity, during this period, the growth of the students who faces a task isto know oneself correct and develop a positive self-concept. People who hasgood self-concept can correctly treat their own advantages and disadvantage,at the same time,they can make more suitable choice for themselvesconfidently, which is of benefit to form sound and stable personality, thesehave important significance for one’s future career and life development.There are some significant others around junior school students, the role ofthem cannot be neglected in the process of self-concept formation, especiallyparents in children’s physical and mental development have a long andprofound significance. Parents how to think of their children and parents’attitudes, expectations are linked to the students’ self-concept. Previousstudies on parental expectations are scant, and no one discussed therelationship between parental expectations and self-concept in junior schoolstudents. This study focuses on the relationship between parental expectationsand self-concept, and put the perception of students into it, attaches greatimportance to the role in students’ subjective initiative. The study of theinfluence of parental expectations on junior school students self-concept helpsto enrich and complement the theory of parental expectations and self-conceptdevelopment, at the same time, use the positive parental expectations tocultivate children’s self-concept can provide guidance for parents in theprocess of getting along with their children, this is good for developingharmonious psychological relationship between parents and children.With questionnaire methods, the study investigated400students on self-concept and perception of parental expectations in2junior middle schoolin Liaoning province, and investigated the parents of students on thequestionnaire of parental expectations. The conclusion is as follows:(1)The parental expectations of junior school students, parentalexpectations of students’ perception don’t show significant difference amonggender;(2)Parental expectations and students’ perception of junior schoolstudents show significant difference in grade;(3)The total score of parental expectations were significantly relatedwith all dimensions of self-concept. Parental expectations could significantlypredict self-concept;(4)The total score of parental expectations of students’ perception andeach dimension of the self-concept are significant correlated. The total scoreof students’ perception can significantly predict their self-concept;(5)The students’ perception of their parental expectations play someintermediary role in parental expectations and self-concept. |
