The material for this translation practice is chosen from the book Fathers, whichwas written by the famous American psychologist Ross· D· Parke in1981.Ross·D·Parke is a famous professor of psychology in the University of California, whois specialized in the humanities, art, social science and psychology. The book Fathers isa systematic summarization of father’s effect on children’s growth. The book is dividedinto seven chapters, which as whole discusses the irreplaceable role of fathers inchildren’s growth, and has great significance of applying fathers’ positive roles in reallife.The excerpt deals with the first three chapters of the book. Contents include thetheory of “fatherhood”,“the expectant fathers” and “fathers and infants”. The mainreason of choosing these parts is that the book is informative and interesting.“Pregnancy” is quite a big event in every family, and with the progress of the science,people increasingly aware that the mother is not the only person that matters in thisevent. The performances of fathers during this process are irreplaceable. And then a translation report is written based on the translationpractice.The translation report is also written under the guidance of Nida’s functionalequivalence theory, and the translator hopes to better transmit the message of theoriginal text by using translation skills such as literal translation, paraphrase, anddividing the long sentences and so on. Therefore, the translator of this article hopes togive more information about the importance of fathers in child’s growth by translating this book. At the end of the report, the translator summarizes the major findings,implications, limitations, hoping to make some suggestions for future translationpractices，for there are still some limitations in the translation that need to be improved.The translator believes that through continuous hard work and accumulation, theselimitations can be overcome and the level of translation practice will surely beimproved.
