An Analysis Of E-C Translation Of IT English From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

The advanced i OS system developed by Apple, which has been attracting a lot of supporters worldwide, has shown that the era for the IT industry is developing on a fast pace. However, English is the source language of i OS-related texts and plays a crucial role in learning advanced IT knowledge. Therefore, translation of IT English paves the way for improvement of IT industry in China.This thesis conducts a study on the E-C translation of i OS Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide(Fourth Edition), analyzing words, sentences and texts from the perspective of functional equivalence theory. The first chapter regards description of the task of translation, introducing the background and process of the task. Following the introduction of Eugene A. Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the thesis emphasizes its application in the E-C translation of IT English. Based on the analysis of characteristics of IT English, it focuses on providing the readers with the closest information in the most natural way at the lexical, syntactic and textual levels combined with a case study. Moreover, this thesis summarizes several practical solutions to translation, in hope of providing suggestions to E-C translation of IT English.
