With economic globalization advancing and international communications increasing, translation on economics literature, undoubtedly, plays an increasingly prominent role.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, this report probes into what translation skills are more effective to achieve lexical, syntactic and textual equivalence of the source text entitled “the January Edition of Global Economic Prospects 2021(Chapter 3)”,a World Bank Group Flagship Report offering vital information about and solutions to post-COVID-19 global recovery following the devastating health and economic crisis caused by COVID-19.Functional equivalence theory was put forward by Nida, who considers that translation needs to place the highest priority on clear communication in easily-understood language and style. Thus, various translation skills are employed in this task to ensure that receptors of the translated text understand and appreciate the translated text in the way the original receptors understand and appreciate the original text to the largest extent.Through the analysis,it is concluded that annotation of terminologies and conversion of parts of speech are effective ways to achieve lexical equivalence;conversion and restructuring are applicable for the translation of passive voice as well as long and complex sentences in achieving equivalence at the syntactic level;and addition of connectives and explicitation of demonstrative references are utilized to ensure that the textual equivalence is achieved. In translating economics literature, the translator needs to be familiar with the characteristics and style of the source text, proficient in translation skills with the aid of corpora, translation tools, and computer-aided technology and flexible in coping with translation difficulties. This report is also intended to provide reference for the future translation of economics-related texts and inspiration for relevant translation projects.
