Eye Movement Research On The Impact Of Field Cognitive Style On Mental Rotation

Field cognitive style was first according to the people in the perception of theoutside world things. They are according to the inner feeling or judged by externalfield. Field-independent depends on perceptual cues to deal with inside information.Field-dependent depends on external reference or environmental cues to perceive.Mental rotation is an object rotate imagine themselves or spatial representationconversion capability. It is an important measure of spatial intelligence. Mentalrotation is an independent psychological process and is one of the most importantrepresentation theory research. This study will make the field-independent andfield-dependent subjects combined together with the rotating object. Using eyetracking technology records eye movement data. Analysis of the two cognitive stylesof the subjects. Thus data can provide different types of cognitive styles’ basis.Making it possible better understand to themselves. This can make certain predictionfor their own development, and can provide some real basis for educators.In this study, inlaid graphics test from among49students selected JiLinUniversity obvious cognitive mode of subjects who include12field-independent and10field-dependent students. It is using of eye tracker recording eye movement data.Three experiments of logical relationship is progressive. Three experimental designsare similar, It is namely using of three common cognitive material (letters, characters,graphics). These have adopted2(cognitive style)*2(task type)*6(rotation angle)three-factor mixed design. Researcher complex experimental results and relateddiscussion to the following conclusion：1． There is a linear relationship between the experimental materials and rotationangle rotation reaction: By a180°, the reaction time increases with the increase ofrotation angle increasing and reaches the maximum when the reaction time at180°.When rotation angle is greater than180°, reaction time reduces with the increase ofrotation angle. Both sides of the curve trend to180°symmetrical. 2． There is a linear relationship between the experimental materials and rotationangle rotation correct rate: By a180°, the correct rate increases with the increase ofrotation angle increasing and reaches the maximum when the correct rate at180°.When rotation angle is greater than180°, correct rate reduces with the increase ofrotation angle. Both sides of the curve trend to180°symmetrical.3．Erect image experimental material are less than acoustic image experimentalmaterial in total number, number of saccadic eye movement indicators. Thetwo-dimensional graphics are less than the three-dimensional graphics in total number,number of saccadic eye movement indicators.180°is the boundary. Both sides of thecurve trend to180°symmetrical.4．Field independence is shorter than field dependence on reaction. Fieldindependence is higher than field dependence on correct rate. Two types ofparticipants were similar trend on reaction and correct rate. Field independent studentsare less than field dependent students in total number, number of saccadic eyemovement indicators. Two types of participants were similar trend in total number,number of saccadic eye movement indicators.5．Physical and mental rotation rotating object is similar The people use certainstrategies through some intermediate stage. Strategy of turning point occurred in180°and showing the color of wisdom.
