Domestication And Foreignization In Video-visual Subtitle Translation

The translation of films and teleplays, only attracting people’s attention in recent years, has not developed so rapidly as literature translation in China. In the process of subtitle translation, proper adoption of domestication and foreignization will directly affect the excellence of a work. This thesis focuses on the translation of subtitle in series, with the homemade THE LEGEND OF ZHEN HUAN as a case for concrete study, comparing the Chinese pronunciation and Japanese subtitle to draw the general principle of translation, meanwhile, the application of domestication and foreignization in THE LEGEND OF ZHEN HUAN is specially studied to show that various translating strategies should be adopted according to different context, background and objects. In fact, whether to use domestication or foreignization is up to the situation, as is not an alternative one can not only sick to.
