A Research On Internet Euphemism’s Generative Mechanism From The Perspective Of Memetics Of Language

With the development of science and technology, Internet becomes more and more popular. As an inseparable part, internet forms a whole unity with daily life and social culture. Therefore, network language which is specially used for the communication on the Internet comes into being. Meanwhile, some of network vocabulary tends to enter into national language. The widely spread of network language has changed people’s way of thinking and approach of interpersonal communication. In the process of network communication, in order to desalt the derogatory or negative semantic features of language, avoid the embarrassment in the communication and communicate conveniently and quickly, netizens use homophonic, words, symbols and other euphemism means to take place of the original language widely, forming a large number of network euphemism.This paper is based on the theoretical framework of memetics and under the perspective of memetics trying to analyze the network euphemism. It also explores the generative mechanism of network euphemism, and explains the development and propagation of network euphemism. Moreover, it expands the research field of memetics theory so as to try to provide a new approach for the study of language meme evolution and study of network euphemism.This paper mainly includes the following parts:The first two chapters are introduction and literature review, containing the current research situation, significance of the research, research methods and literature review. Chapter three is the theoretical framework, mainly providing theoretical guidance from three aspects---- memes and imitation, memes and language and successful memes(Strong Memes). The chapter four and five are the key parts of this paper. Through the analysis of the network euphemism’s memetic characteristics, formation cause, generation process and generation mode, the author makes further efforts for the generative mechanism of network euphemism. The chapter six is the conclusion, which gives a summary for the paper and makes a propose for the further study.
