As a member of the sixth generation of Chinese directors, Lou Ye has become the subject of critics’ study because of his personalized image style. He created a large number of unique and distinctive female images through his keen observation for women’s psychology in his film works. He dug contemporary women’s living conditions and spiritual consciousness, which reflects his care and perspective for women’s present condition and emotional crisis, and he has become one of the best male directors who express women by film.Based on Feminism Theory, this essay analyzes Lou Ye ’s film works that reflected the unique feminine consciousness, which is different from the other male directors. It is to be discussed from four aspects as follows:The first part mainly discussed the reason why he was interested in filming so many women, and the four female image types according to their various features of character: the silent women, the profit-oriented women, the wavering women, the maverick women; The second part mainly dealt with the feminine consciousness in his film, expressed in three aspects: the women’s resistance and escape from The Patriarchy, their pursuit in the love and freedom, and their return to narcissism, which reflects a woman’s confusion mentality when she struggled in the traditional ethics; The third part focused on Lou Ye’s unique film language: on the one hand, analyze Lou Ye’s female standpoint from his female narrative through women’s view and discourse and the lens language to analyze women’s living environment and social position. The fourth part studied Lou Ye’s deficiencies in shaping the female images on the screen: most of the female characters in his film still focused on the emotion in their life, but ignored the unique life experience as a woman, and they couldn’t escape the embarrassing "be seen" situation even they showed their body on the screen.Lou Ye’s film paid attention to the female social situation and their hidden psychological, reflected the contemporary women’s status in society and their unique spiritual world, provided a new reference in shaping the female image and expressing feminine consciousness for the film art.
