The research object of this paper is Anhui southwest dialect,Hubei northeastern dialect and Hubei southeastern dialect. They are in the Anhui, Hubei, Jiangxi border area.Huaiyue sub-dialect of Gan dialect, Huangxiao sub-dialect of Jianghuai mandarin and Datong sub-dialect of Gan dialect are contacting with each other in this area. However, these studies of the region dialect are often limited to single points. And we rarely see papers or books of historical and synchronic phonological description and comparison in this border area. So,this paper is a try. We selected 34 dialect points for this study.Starting from the perspective of cross-dialect comparison, based on the medieval phonology and using the TFD Chinese dialects processing system and a combined method of historical comparison and synchronic comparison, description, analysis and comparison of the phonological systems of the selected dialects have been made. Then we can summarize the regional characteristics of the border, clarify the consistency and diversity. On this basis, the final part will explore the nature of Huangxiao sub-dialect of Jianghuai manarin. The paper comprises seven chapters:The first chapter is Introduction, mainly introducing the research object, research methods, research significances and materials of this thesis. In addition,it summarized predecessors’ outcomes of the research of the phonologicals of this border area. The second chapter is describing phonological types and comparison of initials, which is to investigate the evolution of medieval initials in three dialect area and do a comparative analysis.Chapter 3 to Chapter 5 is a comparative research of finals. The three chapters respectively describe and compare the phonological types, evolution characteristics of medieval Yinsheng, Yangsheng and Entering rhymes in these dialect.Chapter 6 is about the types of tones and comparison, studying tone types and tone values of the three dialects, and comparing these types with medieval tones.Chapter 7 is the final part, which mainly includes summarizing the regional characteristics of the border, exploring the nature of Huangxiao sub-dialect of Jianghuai mandarin and the conclusion part. It summarizes all the studies above from aspects of initials, finals and tones. Then it will from three different aspects explore the nature of Huangxiao sub-dialect of Jianghuai mandarin, and conclude that the early levels of Huangxiao sub-dialec is the Gan dialect. Then the influence of the Mandarin,it changes gradually. But the process is not complete,So we think its nature should be the transitional stage of Gan dialect and Mandarin. The conclusion part mainly makes a summary of the paper, summarizing research results and research insufficiency, etc.
