The Study In Speech Sounds And Classification Of Huangqiao Dialect In Dongkou County, Hunan Province

Huangqiao Dialect has always been included as a branch of Xiang Dialect. The author, by making practical research and comparison in many aspects, finds some sound characters of Huangqiao Dialect: the ancient complete consonants in Huangqiao, when pronounced as plosive and affricate, should be aspirated and voiceless; the ancient Shangsheng among complete voiced consonants have partly become Yinping. All these varying regulations are the same to the law of the speech sound variation in Gan Dialect. The author thinks Huangqiao dialect belongs to a branch of Gan Dialect.The article falls into seven parts.The first part is preface: introducing the location, population, history evolution and general situation of dialect used in Dongkou and location, population and organizational system in Huangqiao and elaborating the research meaning of this article.The second part describes its phonological system, including its consonants system, vowels system and tone system.The third part states the collocation relationship of Huangqiao Dialect and collocation characters of its consonants, vowels and tone.The fourth part describes the case of variant pronunciation in literary reading and colloquial reading in this dialectabout its consonants, vowels and tone.The fifth one is the homonym form of Huangqiao Dialect.The sixth part is the comparison of the sound: one is the diachronic comparison, comparing with the mid-ancient sound in Guangyun phonological system; the other is the synchronic comparison, comparing to a small extent with the dialect in Jintian, Yanglin,Sanjiao and Dongkou and to a large extent with Xiang Dialect and Gan Dialect.The seventh part is the conclusion. On the base of the general comparison above and with reference to human materials, the author concludes that Huangqiao Dialect belongs to Gan Dialect.
