Report Of C-E Translation Project Of Political Essays On Governmental Website Of PRC In 2013

With significant improvement of China’s international status, the whole world shows increasing concerns to and enhances exchanges with China. Political essay involves national policy, social situation, and political affair, and its translation is essential to national political and economic interests, international reputation, and even international relations. The news released at the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, China’s most authoritative organ in handling international affairs, reflect the international image and diplomatic views of the Chinese government, and represent the most authoritative source for foreign experts to study China’s diplomatic policies.Political essay is an informative text, which has been studied by domestic scholars from the perspectives of translation principle, translation compensation, and translation method. However, most of those studies use English informative texts as the research object, with Chinese informative texts rarely involved. Therefore, this paper intends to study translation strategies and methods involved in Chinese informative texts from the perspective of Reiss’ text typology theory and with translation practices conducted in the STS news translation project as cases, and aims to summarize specific translation methods and techniques applicable in such texts.
