David Fincher has undoubtedly been regarded as an unconventional director whose works and styles are totally different from the conventional film language. He had produced many excellent films with great value both in arts and box-office, such as Seven Sins, Fight Club, Gone Girl etc. His accurate control for the narrative rhythm of Suspense Film makes his works very suspenseful and spellbinding,which can always handle the concentration of audience. What’s more, the great reversal in the end of his film always unexpectedly makes sense, which astonishes the audience and earns a lot of compliments. Meanwhile, David Fincher is also very brilliant at the personality-shaping for the characters because he is very good at digging out and describing characters living at the edge of society, putting his own rational thinking about the society ills into the experience of characters, and it can always bring audience into the life of leading character so that they can considerately observe the world and pay attention to themselves. Besides, his skillfully using of shot, light, setting, and special effects lets his film providing a fantastic and realistic experience. All his talents mentioned above let David Fincher regarded as the master of Suspense Film in the industry. It is very necessary to sufficiently study and conclude David Fincher’s unique film style together with the ideological connotation and social thinking hiding behind.By using David Fincher’s films as study object and fatalism as de-structure tool, this essay presents the concrete expression of fatalism in his films, analyses the reasons of the tendency of fatalism showing in his films considering the director’s personal experience, and further concludes the art value and social value of the fatalism in David Fincher’s films.
