The fairy tales is a type of literature commonly seen in textbooks for elementary students. With distinct imagination and diverse technique of expression, the fairy tales builds an amazing and magic world, complies with the law of somatopsychic development and plays a unique role in Chinese learning. In the fairy tales teaching, teachers, students and textbooks constitute the essential elements of the teaching activities.The article, based on horizontal and vertical analysis of the Chinese textbooks published by the People’s Education Press, Language Publishing House and Beijing Normal University Press, elaborates on the concepts and types of the fairy tales and relevant theories on fairy tales teaching. By holding interviews and issuing questionnaires, the article, from the perspective of textbook, teacher, and students, concludes three major problems faced by the fairy tales teaching: the existing textbooks about fairy tales are relatively unscientific; the teaching quality of the teachers is not as ideal as expected; the reading quality of the elementary students is not as high as expected.To improve the fairy tales teaching and to give full play to the value of the fairy tales and based on the above-mentioned deficiences in the fairy tales teaching and the philosophy of the new teaching reform and the fairy tales teaching, this article puts up with improvement strategy from the following angles: introduce original texts about fairy tales; improve the quality of the teachers in fairy tales; encourage students to cultivate ability to understand and read fairy tales.
