Swimming performance depends on the physical and technical, physical fitness is the foundation, technology is the guarantee, technical training and physical training are complementary to each other.Over the past few years, changes have occurred in the attitudes toward the strength training for swimming events. As a lot of swimmers suffered from shoulder injuries, more and more emphases are paid to the shoulder strength training. Besides, since flexing muscles in the shoulders is the basic movement of swimming, the lack of explosive power, physical strength and endurance will probably lead to imperfection or incoherence during swimming. Therefore, doubtless, how to properly increase the explosive power and endurance of shoulders is one of the key factors to improve the performance of swimmers. For young athletes, power quality are as important as factors to improve competitive level. So the adolescent athletes also need strength training. Considering the youth is in growth phase, so the reasonable strength training can promote the development of ability of athletes.Mainly based on literature analysis, expert interviews and target experiments, this paper fully analyze the proper training method for shoulder muscles. The thera-band method was introduced in the training for 30 junior athletes from the swimming team of Zhejiang province. The whole experiment lasted for 24 weeks, during each of the week the swimmers should complete one-hour training one to two times.Findings indicate that junior swimmers, due to their unique physic characteristics and special phase of growing, are of great flexibility in terms of strength, and of instability as well. So thera-bend method is in match with the nature of a growing youngster. After some half-year systematic exercise, there will be great improvements in shoulder-muscle explosive power and endurance of the young swimmers. This improvement will stabilize the shoulder, then maximize forward movements, enable the swimmers to make better use of upper limbs, and finally reach the aim of better results.
