The Mechanism Research Of University Students, Voluntary Service For The Rural Areas

On the basis of systematically analyzing university students’ voluntary service in both China andforeign countries, this study conducts surveys of the situation in Lin’an, Zhejiang Province, andrelevant administrative departments. By using the methods of statistical description and empiricalanalysis, it tries to understand the main patterns of this activity, analyze students’ willingness ofparticipation and relevant mechanisms, and propose political recommendations of perfecting theimplementation mechanism. The conclusions of this research are as follows:(1) There are a variety of voluntary service formats according to the organizational mode, suchas organized by the China Youth League (CYL) Committee directly, organized by the youth voluntaryassociations, social voluntary organization, class, etc. Various activities have been carried out underthose formats. Each format has its own advantages, which closely relate to the rural population’sdemand for voluntary service and the content of it.(2) University students’ voluntary service activities involved in many areas of communityconstruction and have a significant positive impact on society. The formats of voluntary activities arebecoming richer and richer, the division of labor is becoming more and more clear, so thatprofessional services can be pertinently carried out. According to the data of field surveys, villagecadres and villagers highly appreciate students’ work, admitting that students have gotself-development during the process, and they have a relatively strong demand for the agriculturalproduction technology, lectures of the elder’s health knowledge, enterprising training for the ruralyouth, etc.(3) Students participate in rural voluntary service activities for different reasons, one of whichthey desire most is the recognition and affirmation obtained from their work. According to theempirical analysis model, gender, family location, profession, times of voluntary service, times ofrural voluntary service and attitude to it are the main factors affecting university students’participation. Three methods can be taken to perfect the implementation mechanism of universitystudents’ voluntary service: the collaboration platform construction, policy support, and supply&demand combination, thus the operational efficiency of the volunteer service mechanism and theservice level can be effectively improved.
