Using research methods, such as literature reviews, expert interviews, video observation, mathematical statistics and comparative analysis, this paper analyzes individual offensive capabilities of guards of Chinese men’s basketball team in positional attack towards rival teams during the27th Asian Basketball Championships (2013FIB A Asian Championship). It mainly researches on the guards’basic characteristics, scoring ability, penetrating ability, offensive rebounding ability, offensive foul ability, ball control, the ability to dominate the ball and the organizing and coordinating ability during offense.First, the paper puts forward the reason and points out the theoretical and practical significance of this research. Second, the paper does the research from the perspective of guards’basic characteristics, scoring ability, penetrating ability, offensive rebounding ability and offensive foul ability. The results are as follows:(1) Chinese basketball guards are relatively young and their athletic ability, competition experience, on-the-spot consciousness and mental status have not reached optimal levels yet. Chinese basketball guards have significant height advantage, ranking first among it and its rival teams. The advantage of height can make up for the relative lack of weight, so there is a balance of strength level between Chinese men’s basketball guards and opponent guards.(2) The Chinese basketball guards have strong desire to attack, but they are poor at shot-selection and shooting straight. In terms of attack area, Chinese team and rival teams are both concentrated in the far zone and near zone, followed by the middle zone. There are some differences in choosing the timing of shooting between two teams. Chinese men’s basketball team is the same with opponents in shooting models, using shooting off the pass or running shot as the main means of shots.(3) Chinese basketball guards’ penetrating ability and attacking ability has improved, which appeared as follows:taking the initiative to break through the defense and manufacturing fouls.(4) Chinese basketball guards’ ability to grab rebounds is better than that of opponent teams, but they are not positive enough in striving for the ball and poor in grabbing awareness with the bad habits such as "waiting for grabbing" and "watching others grab the ball".(5) Chinese basketball guards are much better in controlling the ball and dominating the ball than the rival teams. They are obviously better than rivals in four indicators (assisting, assisting to outside, drive-and-kick and drive-and-kick to outside), but there is a gap in terms of controlling failure between they and their rival teams, which needed to be further improved.(6) There is no difference in organizing and coordinating ability between Chinese basketball guards and the rival teams, but they differ in the usage of break-and-pass, give-and-go, and screen coordination. This paper analyzes individual offensive capabilities of the guards of Chinese men’s basketball team in positional attack towards rival teams during the27th Asian Championships. It aims at discovering the inadequacies of the guards’ individual offensive capabilities and then making relevant recommendations and proposing some coping tactics, thus managing to provide reference for quickly improving the offensive capabilities of the guards in positional attack.
