The purposes of the paper are to understand the level of college students’heart and lung function by their respiratory muscle endurance、vital capacity (VC) and the maximum oxygen uptake (Vo2max) test and to utilize more easily measured heart lung function index for calculating the similar index which is much more difficultly measured through analysing on the relationship among the three indexes.Recruited healthy objects are 15 male and 12 female untrained college students from Hangzhou Normal University.They were participated in body indexes tests (height, weight, chest circumference), VC test, continuous five VC test, respiratory muscle endurance test and Vo2max test. The respiratory muscle endurance test was utilizing the respiratory muscle training apparatus for the timekeeping to maintain the level of 70%MVV ventilation.The method of Vo2max test was using a treadmill by the BRUCE incremental load exercise and a gas metabolism analyzer.Conventional methods of testing were used for the other indicators.Results:(1)The respiratory muscle endurance time, VC and Vo2max values are on the middle level in college students’evaluation criteria.The male college students’ heart and lung function indexes are significantly higher than the corresponding indicators of female college students.(2)There is no significant correlation between the index of college students respiratory muscle endurance time and body shape indexes.The R is 0.689 between VC and circumference of the male college students.The R is 0.624 between VC and weight of the female college students.There is significant correlation between the Vo2max absolute value and circumference of the male college students,and the regression equation is Y=-2376.011+67.344X.The Vo2max relative value is negatively correlated with BMI both the males and females,but it is not significantly.(3)The male college students’Vo2max absolute value is significantly correlated with VC,and the regression equation is Y=744.694+0.686X.(4)The VC and Vo2max values are not significantly correlated with the respiratory muscle endurance time.Conclusions:The college students’ heart and lung function is good, and the males are better than the females. It is significantly related between the Vo2max absolute value and the circumference or VC, and the Vo2max absolute valuecan can be calculated by the regression equation as mentioned previously. The respiratory muscle endurance, VC and Vo2max are the different indexes of the heart and lung function, and they can not be replaced by the others.
