Chinese curriculum content should be an indispensable part of Chinese curriculum standards. However, it will be not difficult to find that the lack of Chinese curriculum content in Chinese curriculum standards has been a long time and the problem urgent need addressing according to the Chinese Course Criterion of Full-time Compulsory Education and the Criteria for Chinese Course in Regular High School which are recently issued. The book Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching by Mr. Wang Senran who combined with the teaching theory and practice of that time is a very systematic book on middle school Chinese teaching method. It not only contains profound ideas on middle school Chinese Pedagogy and textbook arrangement, but also constructs a clear and enormous middle school Chinese curriculum content system including the subject outline, teaching materials, teaching methods and so on. Therefore, the author tries to explore the contents and features of the thought of middle school Chinese curriculum content construction through the Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching by Mr. Wang and based on the research status of middle school Chinese curriculum content in order to bring some enlightenment for present middle school Chinese curriculum and teaching.The paper is divided into four chapters: the first chapter is introduction. In the introduction, the author first elaborates the reasons for the study; then, reviews literatures related to Mr. Wang Senran and his thought of Chinese curriculum content construction. After that, defines core concepts involved in the paper. Finally, clarifies the research methods adopted in the process of research. The second chapter is an overview of Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching. First, the author makes an introduction about Wang Senran from the aspects such as his birth, growth and academic achievements. Secondly, the author discusses the background of Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching from the individual education and the Chinese education situation of that time. Then, the author briefly expounds the main content and framework of Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching. The third chapter mainly discusses the curriculum content construction system in Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching. First, the author explores the intrinsic relationship between the course objectives(ability aims, content objectives and moving targets) and the course contents(the subject outline, teaching materials, teaching methods) to define the idea of Chinese curriculum Objectives in the book. Secondly, the author expounds the thought of Chinese curriculum content construction in Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching by inspecting the structure and setting of curriculum, the selection and arrangement of teaching materials and the refining and implementation of teaching methods. In the fourth chapter, the author discusses the characteristics of the thought of Chinese curriculum content construction in Essentials of Middle School Chinese Teaching, including specialization, comprehensiveness and operability. First, the author discusses the “specialization” from the framework of curriculum content, the knowledge structure and the usage of selection in the book. Secondly, the author discusses the” comprehensiveness” from Wang Senran’s academic identity, the association of interdisciplinary knowledge and the curriculum content whose internal element should be related to each other. Last, the author discusses the “operability” from the procedures of reading teaching and ordering of curriculum content transforming to teaching content.
