Based on the technology of desktop virtualization,cloud computing has been widely used in various fields due to its advantages of the convenient management of computing resources,easy scalability,and low-cost solution in over a long period of time.Colleges and universities have made full use of cloud computing as the basic technology of informatization construction under the background of its being incorporated in the national key development projects.In particular,lots of works in the reconstruction of the laboratories used in teaching and researching have been carried out in the previous practices.Traditional computer rooms are usually built based on personal desktop computers.However,these methods lead many disadvantages such as the low utilization rates of space and time,the high cost,the massive and miscellaneous software maintenance followed by the rapid update of hardware and software.The rising of cloud computing brings new application pattern and realizing method for the update of computer rooms.Virtual computer room built based under this frame overcome the former shortcomings.The new features of Virtual computer room allow users:to access virtual desktops through the Internet,which greatly improves the spatial and temporal utilization of experimental resources;to add new hardware without any influence on the existing hardware resources,which provides high dynamical augment ability;to log in on various end devices with different capabilities,which makes an end device a display and reduces performance requirements;to centrally manage resources,which greatly reducing the burden of system administrators in management.This thesis provides an excellent solution of Virtual computer room construction based on cloud computing,in which the operating systems and software are centrally deployed on the cloud virtualization platform.The views of virtual desktop are transferred to local devices through the desktop transport protocol.At the same time,the virtual desktop server handles the inputs of the local clients and updates the virtual desktop views in real time.Meanwhile,in order to meet the special requirements of the graphics calculation in the field of Surveying and Mapping,custom-built solution of GPU virtualization technology has been proposed.In the practice of the construction solution,requirements of surveying and geo-informatics computer room was analyzed,including education cloudification,system management simplification,sharing of existing graphics workstations,and the capabilities of graphics calculation.Secondly,an integrated design was presented,including the design of the virtual computer room,the hardware planning and the network transformation,and the management model.Then,a series of are taken,which include platform configuration,server virtualization,desktop virtualization,architecture configuration,virtual desktop publishing,and client configuration.Finally,an evaluate of the built virtual computer room was given,which shows the sufficiency to meet the designed requirements.Cloud computing can not only satisfy current demands of surveying and geo-informatics,but also become a new direction of computational experiment platform development.This thesis also proposes a full suggestion and makes outlook prospects to the Virtual computer room construction of the Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics in Southwest Jiaotong University.
