The EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) for overall project-contracting is one kind of increasingly popular construction contracting mode. In EPC project, the contractor commitments the project design, procurement, construction and commissioning work, etc. The mode shows great advantages in controlling project investment, speeding up project progress and enhancing coordination capabilities, and so on. But in the meantime, the contractor will take on more risks for dealing with much more work in the general contracting project. The management and coordination of project is also getting more difficult. On the basis of quality, how to accelerate progress within the scope of investment and finish the contractual construction targets on schedule is the key of progress management and control for EPC projects.The paper regards EPC contracting project-DL sewage treatment as a case to analyze the reasons of schedule issues during project execution. The problems and phenomenon that exist in the process of project running were also deeply discussed in the paper with the knowledge of project management. Firstly, some typical problems in engineering, procurement and construction were described, and then the problems were further analyzed by using the project management theories of information management, communication management, risk management and the process management theories of program schedule, program control. The analysis results showed that the main reasons were as follows:the time estimate under required resources and matching resources existed deviation during progress compilation; the information management and communication management were insufficient during the planning and monitoring processes; the manpower in organization, contract execution and risk assessment, etc., were lack in field construction management. Finally, we proposed to prepare scientific project schedule, improve the scheduling management methods and improve the construction management measures to address these problems.On the basis of project management theory, we proposed reasonable suggestions and measures through analyzing the process problems in EPC project-DL sewage treatment. The research thoughts and methods of raising, analysing and solving problems in this paper not only provide guidance for the management in DL sewage treatment project, but also for the other lump-sum contracting projects.
