The nesquehonite will transform into basic magnesium carbonate which has been confirmed by many researchers in this field at present.But the current study on the transformation is deficient of detailed analysis about its process.In addition,due to the fact that nesquehonite can only maintain its stable existence under some thermodynamic condition,it means the preparation and application of nesquehonite is rigour.Therefore,this paper is intended to present a detailed explanation for transformation process of nesquehonite whiskers and preliminary discussion about the method to stabilize nesquehonite whiskers without changing its properties.The study can provide some valuable experimental data for the following work and potential application for industrial productionIn this paper, through observing the the phase change process of nesquehonite in water, the variation of morphology and phase with time has been analyzed. On that basis,three time ranges for the phase transformation from nesquehonite to basic magnesium carbonate can be determined and the transformation process have been detailedly explained.The tests of effect of different types of surfactant on nesquehonite whiskers in reaction were planned and through the infrared spectrum(IR) analysis of test results,it can be concluded that the effect of eunatrol is better than other types of surfactant.The action of time when eunatrol starts its work,solution concentration of eunatrol and its content in solution in reaction were also discussed.The morphology evolution of nesquehonite whiskers with the action of eunatrol in reaction and that of nesquehonite whiskers without action of eunatrol at a particular temperature have been compared and it can be drawn that eunatrol can function as stabilizer to prevent the transformation to basic magnesium carbonate.Finally,the analysis with the infrared spectrum(IR) indicate that the mechanism for promotion of stability of nesquehonite whiskers by eunatrol is the stability magnesium oleate which come from the magnesium ions on the crystal surface reacting with the oleate ions.The magnesium oleate coated on the crystal surface which can not only inhibit the heat transfer between reaction environment and crystal,but also prevent the phase change of crystal micro-structure,it makes the morphology and structure of crystal whisker not change.
