Inefficiency in the systems of inventory management for frozen food in China has led to a widening gap between this country and some other developed countries in the world.Lack of access to advanced technology, appropriate inventory procedure, and accurate inventory forecast slow down the development of the frozen food industry in China. The research on inventory control in this thesis will help frozen food enterprises manage their stocks more effectively, thus providing a decision-making basis for its managers.Based on the existing national and international published researches, this thesis develops an optimizing model to manage the inventory flow of frozen foods. Moreover,a demand forecasting model for frozen foods is developed based on grey systems and back propagation neural network theories, and verified by using frozen dumpling demand as an exemplar. An optimal inventory control model for frozen foods based on demand forecasts is then built. Finally, the thesis designs and implements an inventory management and decision support system for frozen foods. The main conclusions of this research are as follows:(1)Both historical demand data and consumer demand are the two major factors that influence the market demand for frozen food and reflect consumer demand trends.(2)A combinatorial demand forecasting modeling approach for frozen foods based on a BP neutral network and grey theory significantly improved the accuracy of the forecasts.Furthermore, not only does it provide a strong foundation for building a frozen foods inventory model, but it also delivers a new method for demand forecasting.
