With the problem of current harmonics and reactive power becoming more and more serious, it is necessary to compensate the reactive power and suppress the harmonic. To compensate the dynamic reactive power and suppress the harmonic, we presented a system consisted of the Passive Power Filter and the Thyristor Switched Capacitor based on comparing various methods of harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation. And the working principles of PPF and TSC were given respectively and it was shown that the PPF+TSC system we presented had many advantages. And a parameters design method was presented by analyzing the resonant principle, which laid a basis for the design of the system. To compensate the reactive power dynamically, we applied a fuzzy controller to the system. Fuzzy control is one of the intelligent control methods, which has good robustness without the need for an accurate mathematical model.According to the lower power factor and harmonic current of the coal mine, practical data was used to design a PPF+TSC reactive compensation and harmonic suppression system. To verify the effectiveness of the designed PPF+TSC system to compensate reactive power and suppress harmonics, PPF+TSC system simulation model was established. And the results of simulation verified the reliability and feasibility of the strategy.
